Beginning Family Research – Recording Your Information (Part 2)

On Tuesday, October 2nd, the Nipissing District Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society will be hosting a presentation by Pam Tessier on the basics of family tree research. This is the second of two presentations on the basics and will be concentrating on the using of genealogy software to keep records, film sound, photos, sources data etc. in the digital age. This presentation will be held in the Joan Duquette Room on the upstairs Mezzanine at the North Bay Public Library, 271 Worthington Street East, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. For more information, please call (705)474-4830, extension 2833. The North Bay Public Library Children’s Department will be hosting Preschool Storytime – Fall Session Thursday mornings starting October 11th at 10:30 a.m. in the Children’s Storyroom. Preschool Storytime is an interactive program of stories, songs and fingerplays for ages two and up. Children must be two years old by the time the session begins. Parents are welcome to attend if they wish. When: Thursday mornings, October 11 through to November 29, 2018. Science Sleuth

The North Bay Public Library Children’s Department and Frontier College will be hosting Science Sleuth, a kid-friendly experiment-based program on Monday evenings starting October 15th at 6 p.m. in the Children’s Storyroom. Investigate our world and many of the materials in it through a series of kid-friendly experiments. Every week, participants will be introduced to a different experiment and will follow the scientific process to learn about everything from chemical reactions to different forms of energy and force. Children can test out their own hypotheses and will take the lead in the experiment set up and clean up. No burners, matches or lit flames will be used, though children will handle a variety of materials (everything from white clue to vegetable oil to yeast to food colour) and should be prepared to get a little dirty. This program is suitable for scientists ages 6-12. When: Monday evenings starting October 15th through to November 26th, 2018. Time: 6 - 7 p.m. Where: Children’s Storyroom Registration will begin on Monday, September 17th at 9:30 a.m., either by phone at 705-474-4830, or in person at the Children’s desk.

Writing activities will offer opportunities to experiment with genres such as poetry, fiction, fairy tales, interviewing or even comics.
