Historical Research & References

The reference collection contains approximately 8,700 indexes, encyclopedias, business directories, dictionaries, literary guides, and atlases as well as a large number of phone books for Canada, maps, college/university calendars, Census and Statistics Canada publications. We have back issues of magazines and newspapers, the Nugget, Financial Post and Maclean’s magazine on microfilm.

The library also has two major genealogical databases to help you in your family history research. You can use the library’s computers to access these services or also access them from home through the library website with a valid library card and PIN number.

We also offer a historical research service for those looking for assistance doing genealogy or local history searches.  The cost is $5 per search or question.

Come to the library, e-mail us at library@cityofnorthbay.ca or phone with your questions and we will do our best to help you.
